Pictures of This Year's STREETSCAPE Renovation Plans
CORMA is posting these pictures of the Streetscape Project that Flatbush Development Corporation has been spear-heading for our neighborhood.
Here's a sketch of what it will look like when it's done:

We're getting a big new Victorian clock, new cobblestones, and new bike racks, all featured here:

Here's where the new trees will go:

how about a PROTECTED BIKE LANE? safe enough to let your kid ride on alone?
Copy of 10/17/06 letter to Assemblyman Brennan:
Sir--
With the planned streetscape improvements on Cortelyou Road and the generally more vibrant nightlife and weekend scene there, I am writing to suggest that you take a simple step to improve the appearance of the storefront office you have shared with Rep. Owens at 1414 Cortelyou: Please consider replacing the sheet metal gates, which lend a bleak appearance to the street in the evening and serve as an apppealing canvass to the local graffitiists, with the see-through chain-like type of gating one tends to see a great deal of in neighborhoods like Park Slope and which are showing up increasingly on Cortelyou as well. This creates a much more inviting appearance and would encourage the local merchants to follow suit, a development that would do as much as any multimillion dollar facelift to improve the look of the area.
I don't know whether you plan to share the space with Rep. Owens' successor, but if you do, I will send a similar request to Ms. Clark.
Regards,
[Poindexter]

I think there is an opportunity for CORMA to take the lead on the issue of these ugly security gates by, at a minimum, providing information about alternative gates to members and non-member merchants. There may even be scope to lean on FDC to provide low interest loans to help local businesses upgrade.
